Doom Tractor was formed in March 2026 by Corey Schroeder and Ryan Moss, two musicians with deep roots in the Chico, California music scene.

Corey has played in many great bands over the years, including the local progressive metal band Eyes of Ruin, which he co-founded and performed with from 2004 to 2009. Ryan is known for his powerful vocal work with another historic Chico band, Anticrisis. Anticrisis played numerous local shows, including multiple performances at Chico's famous music venue, The Senator, following its reopening. Corey and Ryan were also both co-founders of Anticrisis.

Although the years passed, Corey and Ryan stayed in touch after their time together in Anticrisis. That longstanding musical connection eventually led to the creation of Doom Tractor.

Building the Music

After Doom Tractor was formed, Corey and Ryan faced a common challenge: finding talented musicians in the Chico area was difficult at the time. Rather than wait for the right lineup to come together, they decided to start building the music first.

They began writing and developing songs together, eventually creating "Charlatan" and "Breathing Black."

During the creative process, Corey and Ryan spent countless hours jamming, developing grooves, rhythms, riffs, and song structures. Both musicians remained open to feedback and collaboration, allowing the songs to evolve naturally through the writing and pre-production process.

Once the two songs were developed, Doom Tractor moved forward with professional recording sessions at Audio Edge Studios in Sacramento. There they worked with Tom Jimenez, owner and recording engineer of Audio Edge.

The recording sessions for "Charlatan" and "Breathing Black" took place from May 4 through July 6, 2026. The songs were fully mixed and mastered by July 10.

On July 16, 2026, Corey released both songs across major digital streaming platforms.

The First Release

For an independent band with minimal promotion and mostly regional exposure, the release was a success.

Within the first two weeks, Doom Tractor reached approximately 40 monthly listeners on Spotify, with a repeat-listener average of 8.9.

By the fourth week, the band's audience had grown to approximately 91 monthly listeners, while the repeat-listener average reached 9.0.

These early numbers demonstrated that the music was connecting with listeners and gave Corey and Ryan additional motivation to continue building Doom Tractor.

Building the Lineup

With the initial songs released, Doom Tractor turned its attention toward finding musicians to complete the live band.

The first drummer to audition was Liviu Bujor from Red Bluff, California. After a successful audition, Liviu was officially brought into Doom Tractor as the band's drummer.

Liviu has been working hard with the band, learning the material and contributing his own musical ideas and abilities. Doom Tractor is excited about what he brings to the band's sound and looks forward to developing the live performance together.

Continuing Forward

Doom Tractor is now continuing to build its live setlist while developing new music and strengthening the band's lineup.

What began in March 2026 with two longtime musicians and a shared musical history has grown into a developing metal project with original songs, a professional studio release, and a growing lineup.

The story of Doom Tractor is just beginning.
